Kniha přináší jak konstruktivistický, tak biologický pohled na gender a jejich popis. Zaměřuje se zejména na historii pohledu oboru psychologie na tento problém, ani tak ale nelze považovat knihu za určenou pouze pro psychology. I autorka sama se totiž zabývá otázkou, zda by se studiu genderu měla věnovat právě psychologie. Pro kulturální studia je publikace vhodná zejména díky své rozsáhlosti a podrobnému vysvětlení v rozdílu jednotlivých pohledů na problematiku genderu. Publikace se snaží rovnoměrně věnovat mužským i ženským studiím. Od str. 167 se navíc publikace začíná věnovat vysvětlení tzv. genderových stereotypů. (Kateřina Černohorská)
